When you trade crypto on SoFi, you pay a trading fee that's built into the price you see for the crypto you're buying or selling. Your fee rate is based on your trading volume over the past month, and the more you trade, the lower your rate.
There are four tiers:
| Monthly Crypto Buy/Sell Volume | Transaction Fee |
| Less than $1,000 | 1.90% |
| $1,000 to $4,999.99 | 1.50% |
| $5,000 to $9,999.99 | 1.25% |
| $10,000 or more | 0.90% |
You don't need to do anything to opt in or change tiers, and you can see your current fee rate anytime by going to Crypto > Settings (the gear ⚙️ icon) > Fee tiers.
What counts toward your trading volume
Your monthly trading volume is the total dollar amount of all your completed crypto buy and sell orders this month. Your volume resets at the beginning of each month.
Recurring buy orders also count. Each one is a completed order and adds to your trading volume. The fee rate that applies is whatever rate is active when the buy order executes, not the rate at the time you set up the recurring order.
A few things don't count toward your trading volume:
- Pending or canceled or failed orders
- Conversions between USD and USDC
- Conversions between USD and SOFID
These conversions don't have a trading fee, and they don't count toward your fee tier.
When your rate changes
Your fee rate updates automatically. When you reach a lower-fee tier, your new rate starts applying within an hour. Trades you've already completed keep the rate that was active when you placed them.
Once you reach a lower-fee tier, you keep that rate for the rest of the month and all of the following month. To keep that rate longer, you'll need to reach the same tier again during the following month. If you don't, your rate will move back up at the start of the month after that.
For example: if you reach the 1.50% rate on July 15, you keep it through the end of August. To stay at 1.50% in September, you'll need to reach the 1.50% tier again during August.
We'll send you a notification any time your rate changes, so you'll always know where you stand.
Where to see your current rate
You can see your current fee rate anytime in your crypto account by going to Settings (the gear ⚙️ icon) > Fee tiers. Your rate also appears on the Buy and Review screens before each trade, so you can see exactly what you'll pay before placing an order.
Fee vs spread
The trading fee and the spread are two different things. SoFi charges a trading fee on every buy and sell order, based on your fee tier. This fee is built into the price you see.
For orders placed by entering a crypto amount, your price may also include a small spread of up to 0.10%. The spread reflects market movements between placing and executing your order.
You can see both your trading fee and any spread on the Review screen before placing each trade.
Other crypto fees
Depending on the payment method you use, a fee may apply. You'll see any payment method fees on the Review screen before you place your order.
