If you have SoFi Checking and Savings, you’ll be able to send money to friends and family in select countries for a small fee. The money arrives instantly and is sent directly from your SoFi Checking account.
Depending on the country, you can send money in one of two ways:
- Using a payment handle – We’ll automatically create your payment handle for you the first time you use the international send feature and link it to your checking account. You can enter your recipient’s payment handle or invite them to set one up for free.
- Using their account details – In some countries, you can send money using region-specific account identifiers
Right now, international payments can only be sent from your SoFi Checking account (either individual or joint).
How do I send money to someone outside the U.S.?
You can send money to friends or family in supported countries right from the SoFi app. Here’s how:
- Go to Banking > Pay > Pay a friend (U.S. or abroad)
- Select a recipient from your recent contacts, or add a new one
- When asked where they’re located, choose Outside the U.S.
-
Depending on the country, you’ll either need your recipient’s payment handle or their bank account identifier. In some cases, you may also be asked to provide additional details like the recipient’s date of birth and country of residence.
- If your recipient doesn’t have a payment handle, you can invite them to create one. It’s quick and free for them to set up through UMA. Just tap Share link to send them a text or email with the setup details.
- Once you have your recipient’s details, re-enter the flow and follow the prompts to enter their information
- Enter the amount you want to send
- Enter the reason for the payment (This helps us keep your money safe and meet legal requirements.)
- Carefully review the recipient details and all disclosures on the Review screen
- Slide to send the payment
International payments are sent instantly and can’t be canceled, so be sure everything looks right before you send. To learn more, read Who can I send money to outside the U.S., and what do they need to receive it?
