Understanding how to use your SoFi Credit Card while traveling can help you make the most of your account. Below, you’ll find clear explanations and answers to common questions.
When you use your SoFi Credit Card for transactions in foreign currencies, SoFi covers the 0.9% foreign transaction fee. However, a 0.2% foreign conversion fee is included in the transaction and is not reimbursed by SoFi.
You can use your SoFi Credit Card almost anywhere Mastercard is accepted around the world, making it easy to shop or withdraw cash in the local currency while you travel. Please note, though, that your card may not work in certain countries due to U.S. government regulations set forth by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
SoFi must comply with the rules set forth by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), a federal agency that enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals. Some countries are subject to U.S. government sanctions, which means we’re not allowed to process transactions there.
For the most up-to-date list of affected countries, please visit the OFAC Sanctions Programs and Country Information. We’re unable to make exceptions to these restrictions.
You do not need to notify SoFi before traveling internationally with your credit card. Your card is designed to work seamlessly while you travel, so you can enjoy your trip without any additional steps.
You must maintain a permanent U.S. mailing address while traveling internationally with a SoFi Credit Card.
Chip card technology is widely used both in the U.S. and internationally to enhance the security of your transactions. Here’s how to use your SoFi Credit Card at a chip-enabled terminal:
- Insert the chip end of your credit card into the terminal with the chip facing upwards.
- Follow the prompts on the terminal screen.
- If necessary, either sign or enter your PIN.
Keep the card in the terminal until prompted for removal. Removing the card too early will cancel the transaction.
Chip card technology enhances card security for electronic payments by adding an encrypted smart chip to the card for use with a chip-enabled terminal at the merchant. The chip generates a unique transaction code that is shared with the merchant.
If your SoFi Credit Card is lost or damaged while you are abroad, report the issue to SoFi as soon as possible. You can contact SoFi customer support through the app or website for assistance with securing your account and requesting a replacement card.
