SoFi Invest does not charge trading fees or commissions, but your account could be subject to service charges and transactions subject to exchange fees. For instance, there could be a $15 returned ACH fee if a transfer is reversed or a $2 fee for paper document delivery.
Regulators assess fees on equity transactions to recover the cost of supervising and regulating member firms. Two types of fees assessed include the SEC and FINRA Trading Activity Fee (TAF). These are generally charged on equity transactions and come out to a fraction of a penny per share purchased. For example, as of February 2020, the SEC fee is $22.10 per $1 million dollars trade and the TAF fee is $0.000119 per share with a maximum charge of $5.95 per trade.
