How do I link or unlink an external bank account?

Linking an external bank account to SoFi Bank: (Plaid) 

  1. Log in to your SoFi account using the mobile app or website.
  2. Select the Banking tab.
  3. Click Transfer on the banking homepage. 
  4. Select Transfer money.
  5. Click To.
  6. Select Link New Account.
  7. Click Continue on the SoFi uses Plaid to connect your account screen.
  8. Search for or Select the institution you’d like to connect to.
    Note: Not all financial institutions are available through Plaid. Use the following instructions for Linking an external account to SoFi Bank: (Manual) to manually add an account.
  9. Enter your online banking credentials associated with your external account.
    Note: You may be prompted to leave SoFi’s app to do this. Don’t worry!  You’ll be back soon. 
  10. Once the account is successfully connected, you can fund your SoFi Bank account.
    Note: Once the account is linked, it stays linked until you disconnect it. 

 

Linking an external account to SoFi Bank: (Manual) 


If you are unable to locate and link your account using Plaid, you may be able to connect your account manually. If you are not able to manually connect your account, you can fund your account by other methods and check back at a later time to see if your bank is available. 

Here are the steps to manually connect an external account.

  1. Complete the steps for adding your account vial Plaid,
  2. If you can't find your financial institution, click the x to close the Plaid Select your institution screen.
  3. Click Add account manually.
  4. Enter the information required to link an external account.
  5. Once all fields are completed, click Next.
  6. Click Done to complete the process.

Note: Your external account may require additional verification before it can link to SoFi Bank. Please refer to our Micro-deposits article.



Unlinking a connected bank account: 

  1. Log in to your SoFi profile using the mobile app or website.
  2. Select the Banking tab.
  3. Click on the Transfer icon located on the homepage.
  4. Select To or From to bring up a list of your connected accounts.
  5. Select Edit. 
  6. Click the X next to the account you’d like to disconnect.
